1. I understand that co-op is a commitment for me as a parent.

2. I understand that this is a parent-run co-op – there is NO PAID STAFF.

3. I realize that when I am unable to attend, the co-op will not run at complete capacity, and it will be more difficult for everyone to do their jobs. Co-op may even need to be canceled if too many people are absent.

4. I understand that I am committing our family to participate throughout the duration of this school year, 2025-2026.

5. I understand that we as a family are allowed no more than 2 (TWO) NON-ILLNESS absences per co-op year (2025-2026). I understand that if we exceed 2 NON ILLNESS absences, the leadership board will meet with me to discuss my family’s eligibility for continued participation in co-op.

6. I understand that if prolonged sickness becomes a problem, thus affecting my family’s attendance, I will communicate with the co-op board leaders.

7. I agree to participate fully during co-op, engaging with the children, and not unnecessarily using my phone or other personal electronic devices.

8. I understand that I may expect to personally spend 1-2 hours a week, outside of regularly scheduled co-op hours – on co-op-related work/preparation.

9. I understand that the success and enjoyment of co-op are dependent on my participation, and I agree to engage and participate to the best of my ability, as the Lord allows.

10. I am willing to allow the Leadership Board to hold me accountable for this agreement.

Co-op Conduct and Discipline Policy

Creating a Positive, Respectful Community for All

💛 Our Commitment

At our co-op, we come together from many different walks of life, with a variety of parenting styles, teaching methods, and learning philosophies. That diversity is part of what makes our community so special!

Our shared goal is to provide a safe, welcoming, and encouraging environment where every family feels respected and supported. To help us do that, we’ve created some community guidelines for how we interact during classes, events, and online platforms.

These policies are not here to judge your personal parenting choices—what happens at home is always up to you. But while participating in co-op activities, we ask that everyone follows the same standards to help keep things running smoothly and kindly for all.

📋 Code of Conduct

For Children:

We want co-op to be a fun, friendly, and respectful place to learn and grow. We ask all children to:

  • Be Kind and Respectful
Treat classmates, teachers, and volunteers the way you'd like to be treated—with words and actions that are thoughtful and polite.
Example: If someone is sitting alone, invite them to join you. If you’re upset, ask for help instead of shouting.

  • Follow the Rules
Stick to the co-op's rules and directions during classes and activities.
Example: If a teacher asks everyone to line up quietly, do your best to follow along.

  • Use Safe, Appropriate Behavior
We don’t allow hitting, horseplay, biting, roughhousing, or inappropriate physical contact.
Example: Hugging is okay if both people are comfortable, but kissing or play fighting is not appropriate during co-op.

  • Stay Focused
Avoid distractions or disruptions that could make it hard for others to learn.
Example: Save toys, loud jokes, or side conversations for after class.

  • Listen to Leaders
Show respect for all co-op adults and volunteers by following their instructions and listening with a good attitude.

For Parents/Guardians:

You are an essential part of our community. We ask that you:

  • Lead with Kindness
Treat other families, children, and leaders with respect and grace.

  • Support the Rules
Encourage your child to follow co-op expectations, both through reminders and by setting a positive example.

  • Address Issues Promptly
If concerns arise about your child’s behavior, please work cooperatively with our team to resolve them with care and understanding.

👩‍🏫 For Teachers, Assistants & Group Leaders:

Our teachers, assistants, and group leaders play a vital role in shaping the tone of our co-op. You help create the atmosphere where learning and connection can flourish. We ask that all leaders:

  • Lead by Example
Model kindness, patience, and respectful communication at all times. Children and families look to you as a guide for how we treat one another.

  • Foster a Safe and Positive Environment
Create an inclusive space where all children feel seen, heard, and valued. Set clear expectations and maintain consistent, calm classroom management.

  • Redirect with Care
Use gentle redirection to address behavior. Offer children a chance to regroup, ask questions, or make better choices without shame or embarrassment.
Example: “Let’s take a quick break and come back when we’re ready to focus again.”

  • Keep Communication Open
When behavioral concerns arise, talk to the child’s parent with empathy and professionalism. Work together to find solutions that are supportive, not punitive.

  • Partner with Families
Respect each family's unique approach and seek collaboration when guidance is needed. Our goal is always to work together in the best interest of the child.

  • Stay Involved and Informed
Be familiar with our co-op policies and follow the discipline procedures if needed. Leadership is here to support you every step of the way.

⚖️ Discipline Procedure

When behavior issues arise, our first goal is always understanding and growth. We believe in giving children a chance to correct behavior with support. The steps below are taken only after a teacher or group leader has first tried to redirect the behavior.

1. Verbal Reminder

A co-op leader will speak with the parent and child to explain the issue and what needs to change. This is often enough to solve most problems gently and quickly.

2. Written Warning

If the behavior continues, we’ll provide a written notice that explains what’s happening and what the next steps are. This helps everyone be on the same page and gives the child another chance to grow.

3. Temporary Suspension

For ongoing issues or serious concerns, a student may be asked to take a break from co-op for one week. A meeting with leadership and the parent(s) will be scheduled before returning to class.

4. Expulsion

If behavior continues to be unsafe, harmful, or repeatedly disruptive, the co-op may decide to remove the student permanently. This is a last resort and will be handled with compassion by the leadership team.

🤝 Restorative Practices

Whenever possible, we believe in repairing relationships and helping children grow through their mistakes. Some of the ways we do this include:

  • Conflict Resolution Meetings
Giving children a safe space to talk things out and understand each other’s feelings.

  • Reflection Opportunities
Encouraging students to think about their actions and how they can make things right.

  • Rebuilding Trust
Working as a team—families, leaders, and children—to restore peace and unity in our community.

💬 Final Thoughts

We know kids are learning—how to share, how to listen, how to handle big feelings. That’s why this policy exists: to help guide and support them through the learning process in a way that’s respectful, firm, and full of heart. 💗

Thank you for helping us create a co-op that feels like a second home for everyone.
